Thalassa Papakonstantis - other - Ask Alice, By "Anonymous" (Beatrice Sparks - editor)

Go Ask Alice is a book best described as a journey through a young teens mind. As a 14 year old in the late 60's, growing up very fast due to moving and parental apathy, she experiences the intensity of the times. Drugs, sex, and confusion are the mainstays in this young girls life. Reading this as a teen, I was enthralled my the clarity of the descriptions, of her surroundings, her family, and her thoughts. The fact that it was "anonymously" written made it even more enticing. The inner world of a teenager is so tremulous, especially when it comes to sex, that it was an incredibly helpful and satisfying read. The question of it's authenticity is one for adults, a teenager doesn't care about that. They want to feel understood, and this book does that. The 1960's is an excellent time for this young persons thoughts to be exposed, since it's analogous to the tumult, rebellion, and exasperation that goes on in most teenagers minds.
