Ash, by Malinda Lo
This is a great rendition of a classic Cinderella story. Ash, a beautiful young woman with a future of a good life suddenly gets hit with a double tragedy; her mother dies and her father remarries. The new wife is a witch, to say the least, with 2 hideous daughters who are only obsessed with marrying the prince.
After Ash’s father dies soon after that, she is then destined to be the notorious house cleaner. You think you know the classic story but there is a big plot twist. Instead of falling in love with the prince, she falls in love with his strong, fearless huntress. It is a classic love story of 2 women from the wrong side of the woods who may or may not make it work in the end.
Ash is a fun character with lots of sassy dialogue and thoughts. I would recommend this book for young adults who are interested in reading a love story that doesn’t necessarily work out the way it typically does.
