Poem Book Review

Poem: Somethings Missing by: Shel Silverstein

Annotation: This poem is a light hearted poem that may appeal to children of all ages. It is a poem that talks about a man who is getting dressed to go to a dance. Line by line, it goes through the clothing items that he IS wearing, while at the end, asking what he has forgotten. The illustration gives context and a visual appeal.

Illustrator Information: Shel Silverstein is his own illustrator.

Opinion: The rhyming words and word flow allows the reader to easily get through the poem. It is light hearted and comical for all ages. I really enjoy this poem for its ability to engage children in language and reading, while appealing to their sense of humor. This is a poem that everyone who is in school can relate to, as everyone gets dressed in the morning. One of the things I like most is the diverse appeal that this poem holds. It can be used with 2 year olds just as it can be used and read by adults.
