Hi, Koo! By Jon J Muth
This book is a collection of haikus
organized by seasons. A cute panda bear
is the main character in each of the poems.
The cute and silly feel of this book could be used as a great intro to
this genre with children.
For young children the poems
describe things and events in their everyday lives and with older children the
form for a haiku could be talked about which would hopefully inspire children
to create their own. The really
interesting thing about this type of poem is that there are a very limited
number of syllables and children would have to choose very carefully which
words were the most important in getting across their meaning.
