The Fairy-Tale Detectives (The Sisters Grimm #1)

The Fairy-Tale Detectives (The Sisters Grimm #1) by Michael Buckley may be one of my all time favorite book series. In the series two sisters, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm learn the secret of their family, that they are caretakers for a town filled with Fairy-Tale characters. They have to work with their crazy Grandma, a Great Dane named Elvis, and a team of other mysterious members to stop a giant from destroying the town they are just beginning to like. This series is nine books long, and has an amazing continuity of character growth. Through the series the girls grow up, and Sabria, the older sister has to deal with the beginnings of puberty and hormones that make her just a little cranky. Daphne, the younger sister, has to cope with this while proving to everyone that she isn't the baby of the family any more. Both sisters are amazingly relatable, as are the multitude of other characters featured.
These books are amazing. They are creative, funny, deep, surprising, and bring a new life to old tales and characters. Michael Buckley does all of these characters wonders with his amazing and thoughtful writing.  Along with wonderful wiring ,the books are also peppered with amazing illustrations that really help bring the characters to life.
I would recommend these books to anyone from an upper elementary grade and up. They are rich with good vocabulary, funny, entertaining and a great take on classic stories. I cannot recommend these books highly enough.
