Speculative - Science Fiction - Thalassa Papakonstantis EDRL 524

You needn't have grown up in the days when this timeless Science Fiction show was on the air to appreciate its everlasting qualities. Star Trek, as it aired in the late 1960’s, had the campy allure of a b-rate movie, complete with tacky costumes, melodramatic music, and a Captain who romanced his way through the universe. It was a blip on the popular culture radar at the time, enjoyed by many but then quickly up and dissipated after only three seasons. Yet the messages that was Star Trek's philosophy endured. We've seen the Franchise that Star Trek has become over the decades, with show spin-offs, movie sequels, and the multitude of novels that have come from this little show with the pointy-eared alien. But underneath and surrounding all that sci-fi fanciness is a belief in humans as a loving and peaceful people. This ideology, in the Star Trek world, spreads to all kinds of races from all kinds of worlds. But it’s an analogy for what we here on Earth are capable of. Compassion, empathy, and reasoning. Any person, young or old, who watches or reads the stories that stem from this work will be transported to the outer universe of action and romance, yet invited to the inner universe of seeking knowledge and growth which is our true human spirit.
