Rosie Revere, Engineer

Rosie Revere, Engineer - by Andrea Beaty, Illustrated by David Roberts tells the tale of young Rosie Revere a student in Ms. Greer's class who dreams of becoming an Engineer. Rosie creates and invents amazing contraptions, like a Cheese Hat to keep snakes away for her Zookeeper Uncle. Rosie wishes to become a great inventor like her Great Aunt Rose, who comes for a visit and encourages Rosie to keep up the amazing work. Rosie needs this encouragement as she has become a bit downtrodden that her inventions don't seem to be working like she imagines, but Rose impresses upon her young niece that a failure is only an opportunity to learn.
I love this book, and I love that it is part of a series that is still a work in progress. Rosie is a member of Ms. Greer's class, where young Iggy Peck, who dreams of being an Architect, is also a student. Both Iggy and Rosie learn the value of being true to their passions while passing along a strong celebratory message about both the value of hard work, as well as having a creative mind.
This book is written in rhyming prose that reads aloud beautifully. The illustrations are fun, colorful, and invite closer inspection with small hidden details. This is a wonderful book that can be read aloud to any grade.
