The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho is a brilliant written novel about one's destiny and path in life. This journey that a young Andalusian boy experiences on his trip to Egypt is one of the most dazzling reads out there. The young Shepard boy has continuous dreams of finding treasure in Egypt. It propels him into an experience of a lifetime. Along the way he meets people that shape his journey and frame of mind. He main theme of, The Alchemist, is that everyone has a destiny that is to be fulfilled throughout life.
This read is outstanding and absolutely recommended to high school students. Being able to see abstract ideas, and learning that everyone has a path and along the way there are many ups and downs and life lessons we go through as human beings.
One of my favorite reads by far this semester. It reminded me that everything has a way of working itself out and causes us to learn about others and most importantly ourselves and who we are. A must read for those looking for perspective and to indulge in a page turner novel!
