The Hammer of Thor (Magnus chase and the Gods of Asgard II)

The Hammer of Thor (Magnus chase and the Gods of Asgard II) by Rick Riordan is the second in the Magnus Chase series. In this book we see Magnus work with his friends to find Thor's hammer. They battle against raging parents, a dwarf who lives as a fish, and compete against mountain giants. Oh, there's also a wedding and a group of knitting zombies.
Magnus befriends Alex, a shapeshifter with a fluid gender, and a sharp wit. He, Alex, and Samirah along with Blitzen and Hearthstone work together with the pantheon of Norse gods to find Thor's hammer and not get killed.
The Hammer of Thor is full of quick wit, pop-culture references and quotes like, “It's a good thing Jack [Magnus' sword] was no longer in my hands, because I would've pulled a full-on Kylo Ren temper tantrum.” Riordan again keeps us entertained, while simultaneously maintaining a hugely diverse cast of characters who help us to understand each other better than we could have before.
I would seriously recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mythology, or any of Riordan's other books. I always marvel at his ability to write so many high quality books while still maintaining very distinct voices for each of his characters.
