First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg
I read this book the first day of every year to my students. It is by far one of my favorite read alouds because it is the perfect unpredictable predictable book. It starts off with a dad calling Sarah down to eat breakfast but does not want to get up, eat breakfast or go to school. She is in a bad mood, shy and not wanting to face her first day in her new school.
After many pages of Sarah reacting as be nervous, anxious, unsure of herself and shy, you find out that Sarah is actually the new teacher in the school.
This book shocks students every time! They are all surprised with the fact that teachers get nervous also. This is a great opportunity to talk to students about how we are all getting to know each other and that it takes time to do that.
