Young Adult Book
Review
Book: Don’t Let
Me Go by: J.H Trumble
Annotation: The
book, “Don’t Let Me Go,” is a romance novel that tells the story of two high
school ages boys who find love. The book goes through their entire love story;
both the highs and lows. Their love is fiery and passionate, but once the
people at school find out about what is going on, they immediate begin to bully
and harass both of the boys. This is a small display of bullying and violence
that happens in schools on a daily basis due to difference of people. The novel
follows all of the times they spend together, both good and bad, until one of
the boys graduates and decides to move away to pursue his career in acting. The
other boy began a blog that expressed his feelings toward his boyfriend being
far away. This blog eventually got leaked to the school and then the book
begins to follow this character’s experiences with bullying and feeling alone
simultaneously.
Opinion: I think
that this book is a good representation of what some gay couples/gay people go
through on a daily basis. I love that it starts off with the love and good
times that began happening when their love began to surface because it gives
the reader an idea that all love, no matter the gender, starts with all the
same values. I think that this book is very telling in that it digs deep into
all the struggles that this couple faces on a daily basis, on top of everything
else happening in their lives. I really enjoyed reading this book, and hope
that others would explore it too for its way of introducing and showing both
sides of these complicated situations.
Questions for future
readers: Do you believe that this novel and love story would benefit young
adults in exposing them to different types of love? How could you use and
implement this book into your classroom to help provide students with moral
training and experiences?
Fun blog!
ReplyDeleteLoved this book suggestion, I have not read many romance novels that are about same sex, which is absolutely enlightening and important to be diverse in reading. Great way to learn perspective, empathy for what others go through and common respect for all human beings in the world.
