This graphical novel, The
Pigeon Needs a Bath!, is just, just so Perfect! I love, love the Pigeon books by Mo Willems! The first, award-winning book of the series
is Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The very comical storylines and simple
drawings make the books so much fun to read.
In The Pigeon Needs a Bath!, the
pigeon puts up a serious argument and makes every excuse in the world not to
take a bath. I can imagine using these
books in any class as everybody, in some way or another can relate to the
stories. How do they relate? People
procrastinate and/or generate every excuse possible not to do that one task,
that they have to do, but really do not want to, for example, washing the
dishes, doing homework, etc. Or, they
want to do something and give you every excuse imaginable to allow the request,
for example, go to a party or in the pigeon’s example, drive the bus. Students can make their own books, writing
down what they do not like to do and every excuse not to do it, there
after. A reader can have a lot of enjoyment reading these books. Lily Woll
