South, a wordless book
South by cartoonist Patrick McDonnell is a tender and wordless story about a bird who is left behind for the winter migration, due to oversleeping. Mooch the cat takes on the task of helping the bird find its family, trekking through ice, snow and hail. It wordlessly explores the themes of friendship, loss, and joy. This book would be an excellent choice for many elementary aged children, even readers, as filling in the dialogue would be fun and rewarding for all.
