Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz begins with the start of the summer for Aristotle, Ari for short. He decides that this summer he will learn to swim. On his first trip to the community pool he meets Dante. Dante convinces Ari to let him teach him how to swim, and our story begins. The boys form a close relationship, struggle with growing up, and discover that they might mean more to each other than they ever expected. Their parents are amazingly supportive and kind, and Ari's inner monologues invite the reader into the mind of a teen struggling to really know himself. The book is beautifully written with scenes that draw the reader deeply in, letting them loose themselves into the flow of the prose.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is an excellent book that any teen struggling with their sexuality, or who has a friend who is, would hugely benefit from. This book should be a staple in any junior high and high school library.
