Adriana Rodriguez, EDRL 524 FALL 16', FRIDA

In this story, Jonah Winter does a wonderful job telling readers about Frida Kahlo's true life story. This story is about a young girl from Coyoacán, México who is an incredibly talented and amazing artist. Frida creates gorgeous and expressive art. Her style is unique and outstanding. She is a true artist who does not imitate anyone's style. One day, Frida Kahlo’s life takes a twist and turn when she suffers a tragic accident that changes and impacts her life forevermore. But life for Frida does not end here, painting is what saves her. Jonah Winter writes, "She doesn't cry or complain, instead of crying she paints pictures of herself crying." Throughout the story and through Ana Juan's vivid illustrations, readers learn and gain insight about Frida Kahlo. They will learn about her life and the amazingly strong human being she was. Frida Kahlo is not only a prodigious artist, but is a true inspiration.  ¡Viva Frida Kahlo!
