Watchmen

Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, to be short and frank about it, is amazing!  I would put this book in my top 3 favorite books.  The depth of the plot and sub plots, the character development, the connection of themes to modern day, the relation of color in the art work to the plots, the action, making the reader question what is moral and what isn't, and many more make this graphic novel a must read.  The story takes place in America where superheros at one point helped society but are now outlawed, though some of them are still taking action because of a conspiracy around a death of a superhero at the beginning of the novel.  The action swirls as they investigate the leads to find that one of their own has a plot to destroy New York city, but is it for a good cause?

I feel that Watchmen should be taught in all English classes across the board because it shows how complex a graphic novel can be and the literacy that needs to be present in decoding all of the information.  I would recommend it for high school and up because it deals with some tough topics such as murder, war, sex, etc.
