The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Imagine traveling to a new land, knowing no one, and then one day a little bird leads you to a beautiful secret place. The Secret Garden, originally published in 1911 by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a fictional story about a young girl who loses her parents in a cholera epidemic, and has to move to another country to live with distant relatives. It is difficult for her at first, but with her independent spirit she explores their massive old estate and finds something that makes her very happy--a secret garden behind a hidden locked door. Through this garden and the nature that is inside, she finds joy in the little things she never noticed before. She also  makes new friends along the way, even helping one in a very magical way. The Secret Garden is a favorite book of mine, it will capture you with the mystery of the old estate and secret garden, and warm your heart with all the extraordinary characters. For young girls it is quite inspiring, because the protagonist, Mary, is not scared of much, she is quite a strong person. This can inspire one to be brave, go new places, and also make new friends.  This story is engaging and vividly written, for any young reader or adult it will take you away to a wonderfully lush, magical, secret place.
