Miss Spider's Tea Party

This book is pretty much my favorite picture book of all time. I love the poetic rhyming verse, the vibrant pictures, and the heartwarming story - and its a counting book too!

The book begins with "one lonely spider", who is drinking tea all by herself. She really would like to have some friends to share her cakes and tea with. She tries to get two timid beetles to come to tea, three spotted moths, four bumblebees... But alas, all the insects are afraid of her, being that she is a spider. Finally they realize that she is quite a lovely spider who eats violets, not insects! In the end Miss Spider has many friends who enjoy her hospitality. Yay, Miss Spider!

David Kirk has also written sequels that tell (& with his colorful painting also show) Miss Spider's other adventures that are worth checking out: "Miss Spider Gets Married", "Miss Spider's New Car" and Miss Spider's ABCs"
