Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz

Blue Bloods is about a fifteen year-old girl who is just finding out that she is a vampire. In this society, their bodies don’t change until age fifteen. At this time, they begin to remember their past lives and come to full knowledge of their powers. Almost all the “blue bloods” (or old wealth in the east coast) are actually from vampiric families. The protagonist, Schulyer Van Alen, is unique; however, because she is a new vampire and has no past life. She is a mix between her vampiric mother and human father (a new type of vampire that has never existed before). While this was an interesting book, so much so that I did get the sequels, the first few chapters are hard to get through if you don’t love fashion; in fact, throughout the entire book, there is so much name dropping, I had trouble knowing what they were talking about. The characters are obnoxious and haughty at times which make them hard to like, but by the end of the book, they do grow on you. Warning: drinking, drugs, non-explicit sex, and a whole lot of product name-dropping.
